Evidence
At the beginning of each class, I usually post a topic for daily writing. The initial writing typically lasts around five minutes, allowing me the opportunity to take attendance and gather all my materials for the lesson. The students know they must be sitting when the bell rings and ready to write. During one class period, I decided to give students the opportunity to share any piece of writing with the class because I sincerely believe writing should be shared. I encourage students to feel comfortable sharing with the class because I know effective verbal communication helps every individual grow and develop in this skill. The result was phenomenal! After one student shared an entry from his daybook, other students began to share as well. All of the other students were supportive of the students who shared and the supportive interaction continued throughout the semester in this class.
I also want to direct your attention to the Novels page because I included two links to the class blogs for The Things They Carried and Fahrenheit 451. I value effective media communication because students are constantly introduced to new forms of media. Students should understand ways to effectively communicate through different types of media and understand how learning occurs through these communication outlets. The classroom is a wonderful place to teach students about this topic, and foster inquiry and collaboration through different types of media. I incorporated a class blog into my lessons for both novels to give students the opportunity to develop media communication skills.
